This shallow-rise platter has a thickly molded bottom and a large base. Large dishes of this type are relatively rare. The design of flowing water, lotus, and jade on the leaves is simple but has a painterly feel to it. The color scheme of the lotus flowers, including deep purple, green, yellow, and navy blue, as well as the red on the jade breast and beak, makes the large pattern even more vivid and lively. This is perhaps the most outstanding example of an early Ko-kutani style platter. On the reverse side, narcissus flowers and stems are drawn in black and overlaid with dark blue. A circle of underglaze blue is surrounded by a circle of underglaze blue around the mouth of the interior.
