This flat bowl with a seven-petaled flower-ringed mouth is highly regarded as one of the most outstanding examples of Aote Kogutani. The front has a cherry blossom design with peonies and irises in a tranquil manner. On the reverse side, a phoenix patterned in black on a fine arabesque ground is covered with green glaze. A large Kakufuku inscription is inscribed inside the base, but the base is somewhat different from the aote (blue-glaze) type generally seen, and the rim of the base has a shallow step. It was a favorite of Okochi Masatoshi and was donated to the Tokyo National Museum after his death.
