Incense containers with a knot design were a favorite of Ninsei, who made them in a variety of shapes. The body and lid of this incense container are almost the same thickness. The body is carved with a rise only at the part where incense is placed, and the lid is carved at the rise so that the body and lid fit together. The body is carved at the top and the lid is carved at the bottom so that the body and lid meet. The white muddy glaze that is applied from the lid to the body melts softly, and a checkered pattern, stone pavement, arabesque, etc., is finely banded on the front of the lid, creating a slim and elegant overall appearance. It is unmarked.
