A Teihei is also known as a “sagebe. They were used as drinking vessels in ancient societies and are reminiscent of “water bottles” in the modern sense. The “Chobei” found in Hatta is dated to the first half of the 7th century, or roughly 1380, which is a little before the Nara period in our country’s history. This “choke” is a type of Sue ware: which is a flattened version of a modern water bottle.
