Mokubei: teapot in the style of kōchi ware with floral scroll design

This is a typical example of Kikome’s purple Koji teapot, and it is thought that both vessels were made using the same mold. However, the color glaze is slightly different. The body is decorated with a peony design, and the lid is decorated with a cloud design.
There is a “Mokumai” mark under the handle, and the underside of the lid is unglazed, with another “Mokumai” mark on the bottom. The accompanying box is inscribed “Tea pot made by Taisenrei-kun, with Mokumai design, dated 1830 (Bunsei 13)”, so we know that it was made in 1830.
