This deep-bowl suribachi, with a thick disk at the bottom, is one of the longest-lived types of Sue ware: dating from the Kofun period to the late Heian period (794-1185). It usually has a one-sided spout at the mouth rim. The bottom disk has numerous small holes pierced from the reverse side, probably to prevent firing cracks. The thick disk at the bottom is thought to be for the purpose of stabilizing the vessel.
