Long-necked vases with ring-shaped handles on the shoulders were produced considerably in the 9th and 10th centuries, but there are very few complete vases. This vase has a chipped mouth rim, but it retains its fine shape. It is a large piece made of iron-rich clay with a thin, elaborate wheel-thrown finish. The firing is not very good, and the vessel has a blackish-brown color. The ash glaze on the shoulder is probably natural ash fall. It was probably made around the beginning of the 9th century.
