This large vase has distinctive features, such as a wide-open, thick mouth and neck, and a body formed directly from the shoulder to the bottom. The clay is grayish-white and rather coarse, and the firing was not very good. The gray glaze, which was applied over the entire surface with a brush, was not fully melted, giving it a yellowish-white color. It is probably from the Tono Shoro kiln in Gifu Prefecture.
