The bottom of this piece is burnt out, and it was abandoned in the kiln’s fire mouth. Kurozasa Kiln No. 14 is a kiln that mainly fired pottery with floral motifs and ash-glazed ceramics, but also fired unglazed daily vessels such as this. The clay is very rich in iron and is fired with oxidized iron, producing a brownish-brown fire color on all sides.
