Ash glazed bowls appeared in the 9th century. They were fired using the trident method, which is thought to be a new form that emerged with the spread of Chinese ceramic production techniques. Early examples, like this bowl, had ash glaze applied generously only to the inner surface. Both the interior and exterior surfaces show traces of trifurcated totin.
