The bowl features a slightly raised waist with a faceted surface, and the rim is tapered to create a sense of undulation. The lower section is rounded, and a low footring with a rounded profile is attached; a shallow swirl-shaped indentation has been carved into the footring. The area around the footring is left unglazed to reveal the clay, while the rest is covered with a thick glaze; the vermilion glaze appears beautifully throughout. A large swirl-shaped tea pool has been formed on the interior surface, and the glaze has been allowed to run down the inside. The clay contains iron, giving it a blackish hue, and three marks remain on the foot rim. On the underside of the lid, Fuzan Seio has inscribed “Ichinyu Kuro Chawan Akebono (signature).” This inscription is thought to liken the red glaze to the dawn and is a name frequently applied to Ichinyu’s tea bowls.
