Fushin-an
This is a large, flat tea bowl with a low-rising body, featuring a gently rounded shape from the foot to the waist. The interior is round and spacious, with a large swirl in the tea pool. It has a narrow, stepped foot, and a kabuto-kin (helmet-shaped indentation) is carved into the interior of the foot. The glaze applied over the entire piece is thick, resulting in a bluish-red raku finish, with some fire-induced color variations visible in places. On the side of the foot, Ryoryo-sai has handwritten in red lacquer: “Made by So-nyu, known as Umi Harato (seal).” On the underside of the box lid, Rokuro-sai has inscribed: “Red flat tea bowl made by So-nyu, with inscription by Ryoryo, known as Umi Harato (seal).”
