Sanyu: tea bowl, known as “Yoshino”, Red Raku

Height: 8.5 cm, Mouth Diameter: 10.4 cm, Foot Diameter: 4.9 cm
This tea bowl features a rim that curves inward, with a body that swells roundly and plumply from the waist to the foot. The interior is carved into a wide, rounded shape, with traces of rough wheel marks remaining. A rounded foot is attached to the bottom; a thin, distinct band encircles the foot, and a swirl-shaped kabuto-kin (helmet-shaped pattern) is carved into the interior of the foot. The glaze applied to the entire piece has a milky white hue with subtle variations in color. This is one of the “Sai-iri 200” series; on the underside of the lid of the accompanying box, Joshin-sai has inscribed “Yoshino Sōsa (seal).”
