Chōnyü: tea bowl with pine-tree design, Red Raku

Height: 8.9 cm, Mouth Diameter: 10.7 cm, Foot Diameter: 5.3 cm
This tea bowl, among the Nagairi-style red raku pieces, features a robust and well-defined form. It has a deep tea pool at the bottom and distinct three-tiered ridges on the interior. The circular foot is simple, and a swirling kabuto-kin pattern is clearly defined on the inside of the foot.
A single pine tree with roots is painted diagonally on the body in white slip. A seal is stamped on the left side of the foot, and a comb-like pattern is applied around the foot. A sand-mixed glaze is applied over the entire piece, but it exhibits white unevenness. The lid of the inner box bears the inscription: “Pine Design, Red Tea Ware, Raku Nagairi Seal.”
