This piece is modeled after a Mishima tea bowl featuring a cypress fence pattern. It is a shallow, bowl-shaped tea bowl with a flared rim; the footring is also carved flat in the Mishima style, with the interior of the footring deeply hollowed out. The exterior features two bands of cypress fence patterns, while the interior is adorned with a combination of cypress fence and chrysanthemum patterns. The area from the foot rim to part of the interior of the foot is left unglazed, while the rest is covered with a milky white glaze, resulting in a pale reddish finish. Seven spots of iron glaze are scattered across the interior, mimicking the appearance of eyes, and a seal is stamped beneath the glaze on the side of the foot. On the underside of the lid, Ryōin has inscribed in his signature style: “Made by Chōnyū; Mishima-style, ninth generation Ryōin seal.”
