Tokunyu: tea bowl, Black Raku

Height: 7.7 cm, Mouth Diameter: 10.5 cm, Foot Diameter: 5.2 cm
This tea bowl features a semi-cylindrical shape crafted with substantial thickness, presenting a well-proportioned form. The undulating rim curves inward, the body flares out at the waist, and the lower part of the body is adorned with a faint chamfered edge. The footring is rounded, with a distinct swirl pattern carved into its interior, and a deep tea pool formed in the interior. Furthermore, a ridge runs around the footring, creating undulations from the footring to the waist. The black glaze applied over the entire piece has melted well but contains scattered air bubbles, resulting in a glaze surface resembling the texture of a yuzu fruit. A mark is stamped on the side of the foot, and three kiln marks remain on the foot itself. The ninth-generation Ryōnyū has inscribed the following attribution: “Made by Ryōnyū: Black Tea Bowl, Ninth-generation Ryōnyū.”
