Keinyu: tea bowl with noshi (gift emblem) design, Black Raku

Height: 8.7 cm, Mouth diameter: 10.5 cm, Foot diameter: 4.8 cm
This is a stocky tea bowl with a slightly tapered rim, a rounded lower body, and diagonal finger marks on the body. The interior is wide with a tea pool in the center, and the foot is low with a wide base. Wavy glaze cracks are visible on the side of the foot, exposing the clay near the base, while the rest is generously covered in black glaze. A large, white-outlined noshi (gift-wrapping) motif is painted on one side of the body, and a middle seal is stamped on the lower rim, overlapping the glaze crack. It was made between Ansei 1 and Meiji 4, that is, when the artist was between 38 and 55 years old. On the underside of the inner box lid, Seisai has written: “Made by Keiiri; black tea bowl with noshi motif; left (signature).”
