This is a shallow, flat tea bowl with an inward-curving rim and a rounded, flared body; the foot is small and compact. It is somewhat thick-walled, and the craftsmanship is quite robust. The foot ring is flat, and a “tomoe” (swastika) mark is stamped inside the foot. The black glaze covering the entire piece has melted well, though the glaze surface is pitted with numerous air bubbles. Three marks remain on the footring, and a seal is stamped near the base, though it is not clearly visible due to the glaze. The lid of the accompanying box is inscribed with “Flat Tea Bowl, Ichigen (seal).” This piece can be counted among the masterpieces of Ichigen’s flat tea bowls.
