15th century
Height 5.8cm, Bore 11.2cm
In the Muromachi period (1333-1573), incense burners began to have a flattened shape with a large bore as the rim of the burner degenerated. This ash-glazed incense burner dates from the early 15th century. The neck is still upright, but the body is shallow and bowl-shaped. The three legs have also degenerated and become small and stuck to the back of the body. The ash glaze is applied over the entire surface, leaving the underside of the bottom and the three legs, giving it a dark green color.
