Excavated from Shichikyoku Kiln, Kitaoka-cho, Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan
14th century
Height 6.5cm, Bore 6.2cm, Body 8.1cm, Bottom 3.8cm
This is exactly the same shape as the tea shown in “Kundai kanjoki,” and was made as a copy of a Chinese work. A suriza tea caddy with a Senjo design was also produced by the Nanagari Kiln. The body is decorated with a willow weave design using a kushime shibun tool.
The lower half of the body is decorated with a “kushime chinkin” line and a small protrusion, and the outer surface is thinly glazed and the inner surface is thickly glazed with iron. This is one of the few good examples of suriza tea containers.
