This ash-glazed grater dish is one of the longest examples of daily utensils produced in Koseto from the mid Kamakura period to the late Muromachi period (1333-1573). There are grating marks engraved on the inner bottom with a sharp blade. It was probably used for cooking yams. The mouth rim of Kamakura period vessels rises nearly vertically, but in the Muromachi period, the rim opens and becomes shallow. All of them have a spout on a part of the mouth rim.
