This is one of the traditional forms of short-necked jars from the lineage of short-necked jars since the Nara period (710-794), and there are not so many complete vessels. The short-necked jar gradually shifted to a vertical form after the mid-Heian period, losing its base and becoming flat-bottomed, and changed again to a short, spherical body in the late Heian period. This bowl was excavated from a mountain tea bowl kiln and was made of highly refractory, slightly sandy clay with low iron content, and the surface of the bowl is remarkably uneven due to the clay winding molding. The surface of the bowl is markedly uneven due to the rolled-up clay molding. The firing is relatively good, with a gray or light brown surface. This is a good example of a late 12th century Tokoname short-necked jar.
