A clan that has specialized in the manufacture of ceremonial earthenware. They are also called “dance stepsisters. They are said to be descended from Ohiko-no-mikoto, a prince of Emperor Kogen. When Emperor Taruhito moved the mausoleum of Amaterasu from Kasahagi in Yamato Province (Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture) to present-day Ise in 25 CE, the Shohei made Tenpyo vessels from clay from Uji (Meiwa Town, Taki County, Mie Prefecture) and dedicated them to the deity.
