An old kiln in Owari Seto. It is located in the southeastern part of Seto City. It is one of the kiln sites of Fujishiro I. The tea caddy fired here is called Asahi Shunkei. In the Horeki period (1751-64), Kawamoto Jihei lamented that this kiln and the Sunset Kiln had long ceased to exist, and he and Kawamoto Hansuke attempted to rebuild them, but were prevented by the village government. In April 1770 (Meiwa 7), both kilns were finally rebuilt in Kyotsukayama, Seto Village, and produced sea squirt pots, which had long ceased to exist. The Asahi Kogama kiln is estimated to date from the end of the Muromachi period (1336-1573) and has excavated white tenmoku, small Kizeto plates, camellia-te, and early Shino ware (see “Owari Meisho Zue”).
