Teabori (Thand-roasting)

marusankakusikaku

A small brazier used in the tea ceremony during the roasting season in the waiting room or at thin tea ceremonies. They are small and come in a variety of forms. Some have a hole in the lid, others are vaulted with a hand attached, and others are made to be warmed by stroking the entire surface. Many of them are elegant in the Raku ware and Kyo-yaki Kensan style. In addition, Yayoi style earthenware has a semi-domed cover on top of the bowl, which is called tebo-shaped earthenware. Its actual use is unknown.
