Uchigumori daikai (uchigumori big sea)

Uchigumori

A great masterpiece. This is a tea container with a large sea of tea by Han. In the “Catalogue of the Tokugawa Family’s Gozukuri Gozukuri” (Catalogue of the Tokugawa family’s collection of calligraphy and paintings), there is an inscription that reads, “This is named after Tozan-dono, because the glaze is generally persimmon-colored, but the glaze color is blackish, like a cloudy sea”. It was owned by Ashikaga Yoshimasa. It was later passed down to Toyotomi Hideyoshi and was often used for tea ceremonies. Later, it passed through the Kyogoku family to the Marquis of Kii, and during the Hoei era (1704-11), it was further presented to the Shogunate, and since then it has been in the Tokugawa Soke family.
