Takatori ware is a type of tea ceremony utensil favored by Kobori Enshu. During the Kan’ei period (1624-44), Marquis Kuroda sent the Takatori craftsman Hachikura and his son Hachiroemon to Enshu in Fushimi, Kyoto, and had them make tea containers, tea bowls, and water jars according to his instructions. Some of Enshu Takatori’s best-known examples include Somegawa, Yokogaku, and Autumn Night tea caddies. (Kanko Zusetsu)
