When dividing the base, the center of the potter’s wheel is off-center, causing the base ring to form a crescent-shaped circle of uneven thickness. Also called “crescent-shaped” or “crescent-shaped” takadai. This type of taka-dai is favored in old Karatsu and is also one of the ten vows of Hakuan tea bowls. This is probably the result of the unrestrained use of the planer during mass production.
