Kiln furniture

marusankakusikaku

Tools made of refractory clay, such as saggar, ebuta, and tsuku, which are required for filling a pod or kiln. Various shapes of tools are prepared in advance according to the type of product, the type of substrate, and the structure of the kiln, to make them convenient for kiln filling. Kiln tools must be able to withstand heat, and at the same time, they must not shrink during firing and must be strong against sudden changes in heat. In other words, if the kiln equipment does not withstand heat, the semi-molten clay will be curved and will not retain its shape. If it shrinks too much, there is a danger that it will collapse during firing, either as a saggars or shelves. If the kiln tools are weak against sudden changes in heat, they will break during firing and cooling after firing, resulting in damage to the contents.
