A kurachou is an inventory of tea utensil holdings. It is sometimes called a “meimonocho” or “toolcho. The most famous kuracho are Enshu kuracho, Hachiman kuracho, Tsuchiya kuracho, Unshu kuracho, Kamio kuracho, Sakai kuracho, and Yakura kuracho. The method of organizing these ledgers is not consistent, but some are divided into categories according to the so-called “famous article classification,” with each category numbered by type, and a detailed description of the name, quality, contents, weight, and other accessories, as well as the source, buyer, and purchase price, with a picture added.
In modern times, the Nezu family’s “Kurachou”, the Sumitomo family’s “Izumiya Seisho”, the Kano family’s “Hakutsuru Chou”, and the Kawasaki family’s “Choshunkaku Kanko” are well-known examples.
