Goki is a type of lacquered bowl used in Zen temples, and Korai tea bowls similar in shape are also called goki, usually with the character for go-ki. All of them are thin and elegant tea bowls. In general, they are tall and deep, with a high base and an outward opening.
There are various names for these bowls. The one that has been handed down in Daitokuji Temple in Kyoto is called “Daitokuji Kureki”. The name “kiri-kureware” is derived from the fact that it has a cut-out base, and also from the fact that the tea puddle is so deep that it looks as if it has been pushed up against the ground. Other names for this type of wuware include: wu-ware, e-wu-ware, bansho wu-ware, yugi wu-ware, hanshi wu-ware, sabozan wu-ware, kata-wu-ware, tan-ban wu-ware, shin-wu-ware, go-to wu-ware, gohon wu-ware and mosaic wu-ware.
