This term refers mainly to porcelain production sites in the Kitakyushu region, and Hizen Arita used to be simply called Sarayama. However, there are also examples of places where ceramics are produced being called “Sarayama. In the Southern Kyushu region, the name “Tsuboya” is used almost exclusively, but in some places, such as Hirasa Sarayama, the name “Sarayama” is also used. In Kyushu, there are only three or four cases of Sarayama ware being called Sarayama-yaki. Arita was probably the first to use the name Sarayama.
