The “Ureshu Shoran” (A Guide to Pleasure) says, “Recently there have been dozens of jikkinte (tea bowls and plates), but each one has a different color and the pictures are not the same. In other words, it refers to a set of bowls and plates, each of which has a different color or pattern. The term “ten brocade” also refers to the powder-painted pieces that appeared during the Yongzheng period of the Qing dynasty in China (1723-35). Gorgeous five-colored dishes are called “brocade,” and those painted in opaque enamel powder are called “ten brocade.
