A weathered product of granite, it is the main raw material for porcelain in the Seto and Mino areas. Porcelain is made by adding frog-eye or wood knots to this powder to make it more viscous. The area of Mt. Sanage to the east of Seto and Mt. Mikuni to the north of Seto produce an almost inexhaustible supply of this material. Although there are some good and some bad depending on where they are mined, they are all useful. In the Seto area, it is called “Sunaba,” and in the Mino area, it is called “Sosai.
