Kiln furnaces that require high temperatures also preheat the combustion air. For preheating, the temperature of the exhaust gas from the kiln is used. For example, in a thermal storage tank kiln, bricks are stacked on a grid inside the storage chamber, and the exhaust gas and cold air flow alternately through the holes in the grid, helping to raise the temperature of the cold air. The term “grid stacking” refers to the stacking of the bricks in such a way that they are stacked in a grid pattern.
