The name “kaolin” refers to Chinese Kaoling clay, which is composed mainly of kaolinite (Al2O32SiO22H2O). It is also called porcelain clay in the sense that it is the raw material for making porcelain, and also called white glaze clay because it is used as the raw material for white glaze. China clay is a term used in England to refer to clay used as a raw material for china, or porcelain, and is made by water-sieving kaolin clay from Cornwall. Currently in Europe, water kaolin is often referred to by this name.
