A stand made by bending clay into a circle, square, or other shape and pressing it into place. This type of pottery can be seen in ancient earthenware, but in later periods, the potter’s wheel was used for shaping vessels, and the foot was cut out on the wheel. In the Seto period, however, some vessels were cut on the wheel before being mounted on a pedestal. Many hand-kneaded vessels that are not made on the potter’s wheel still have a tsuke-taidai.
