Nisaied bowl
Nisaied bowl

Two-color glazed ware: bowl.
8th century
Height 4.3cm, mouth diameter 14.7cm, bottom diameter 5.2cm
Shosoin
Of the ten Shosoin ceramics with the same shape and arms, there are four with Nisai arms. They are identical in terms of base, molding, and glaze tone, and were made at the same time. The base is made of grayish-white, rather coarse clay, wheel-thrown and sharply finished, and is a thin, fine piece.
The bottom of the bowl is flat and thin. Only the back of the bowl is dewy, giving it a pale eggshell color. The glaze pattern is a series of triangular arcs in a dark green glaze, overlaid with white glaze. The glaze is well polished and even, with a bright dark green color. There are trifurcation marks on the inside of the vessel from the overlapping firing process. There is also a chip at the edge of the mouth rim where a string was dislodged when it was hung on top of another.
