A native of Hizen Arita. He was originally a samurai of the Ogi Nabeshima family. He was originally a samurai of the Ogi Nabeshima family, but followed his father Chiai to Arita, where he studied painting under Natomi Sukejiro, and painted pottery at the Seiji Company and Tsuji Katsuzo’s factory. The beauty of his lines was unrivaled, and he painted many Imperial Household goods such as chrysanthemum crests, and was especially skilled in Ko-Imari style designs. In 1888 (Meiji 21), he and Tashiro Senichi established a company in Hiekoba to manufacture porcelain clay using a steam engine, but in 1895 (Meiji 28), due to the recession, the company was given over to the management of the town and village association.
