Enamel is a translation of enamel, which is an opaque glassy material with a strong luster. There are three major types of enamel in the ceramic industry.
(1) Ceramics with an opaque enamel glaze. (2) Glassy enamel, which is made by adding more boric acid and borax to the ingredients of ordinary glaze to make it easier to dissolve, and colored glassy coating, which is mainly applied to copper, silver, etc. Cloisonne enamel belongs to this category (3) Ordinary enamel or simply enamel, which is mainly applied to iron base with opaque glaze. In rare cases, copper base is used. It is this enameled ironware that is usually called enamel. The origin of enamel ware is said to be very old in India, and mainly copper-base enamel ware became popular in the Roman period, and iron-base enamel ware was produced with the prosperity of iron manufacturing in the 18th and 9th century.
