Lord of the Matsue domain in Izumo Province (Shimane Prefecture), Matsudaira Jirigo. His family name was Matsudaira Fumai (松平ふまい), the lord of the Matsue domain in Izumo (Shimane Prefecture). He was the son of Muneyoshi VI, who was a fourth-ranked attendant Sadamori. He succeeded to the family and became governor of Dewa. He promoted the wealth and strength of the fiefdom, and the government of the people improved greatly. In 1806, he retired and studied tea ceremony under Hanzunan Kohtoku, and finally started his own family tea ceremony. He called it Ishu-ryu Fumai-ryu. He died on April 24, 1818, at the age of 68. His works include 18 volumes of “Kokin Meimono Ruiju” (A Collection of Ancient and Modern Masterpieces). A biography of Fumai is detailed in “Matsudaira Fumai Biography.
