A glaze with a lofty and elegant appearance, with or without coloring, but with no gloss on its surface. It is a matte glaze. The lack of gloss on the surface is not due to overglaze corrosion or sand plastering. It is a glaze in which certain components crystallize and precipitate on the surface during the melting and cooling process. This glaze is most commonly found on pottery and stoneware, and was used for decorative purposes.
