Specialty. Shigaraki ware tea bowl. This teacup may have been named after the glaze color of this teacup, which resembles that of barley powder. Or perhaps the name was given because the small dots in the white glaze resemble polka dots. It was owned by Tsuda Munenori, and passed through Etsuki Wassho, Tanaka Sensai, and Fuyuki Kiheiji before entering Matsudaira Fumai’s possession around 1789-1818. It is now in the collection of the Nezu Museum. (Taisho Meikikan)
