This is a magnificent large Wabi-cha-iris (tea bowl), with a pattern of soaking like a rain leak, and is said to be inspired by the poem “Minomushi no moeru ame oraku ame oraku kaho naru” (Gekiyo-shu). It was originally owned by Mutsukumori Matsudaira, lord of the Sendai domain, and entered the Mitsui family through Sagamimori Hotta (Horeki), Soppo Mitsui in Kyoto, the Hotta family again (1783-, Tenmei 3), Otaki Doi (1784-, Tenmei 4), Seizaemon Kashima in Edo, Genzaemon Honoda in Ginza, Aburaya in Hocho, Rikizo Yamasumi, and then entered Sabrosuke Mitsui, where it has remained since.
