This jar is said to have been used as a tea container until recently, and was also used for brewing sake in the past. It is an imposing large jar. The short neck, the rounded edge of the rim, the strong tension of the shoulder, the thick body, and the small base indicate that this large jar was made in the middle of the Kamakura period. The small mortar-shaped base was made by cord-forming and nadir-forming, and then the base was formed by adding more cord-forming, and the surface was adjusted by scraping. The shoulder is slightly covered with a light green natural glaze. A seated figure is painted on the shoulder. It may be a representation of a seated Buddha.
