This relatively thin vase is sharply made with an outward-tilted beveled mouth rim. It is molded by winding up a clay cord, and the bottom shows still thread cut marks. Part of the mouth rim is folded outward to form a single mouthpiece. The inner surface of the bowl has been grated in twelve directions from the center with a fine comb, but the grit is still coarse for wares from this period. The ware has a faint red fire color with a hint of oxidation. This is a good example of a suribachi from the mid Kamakura period.
