This is a type of small vase known as a tane jar, called “Uzukumaru” because of its shape, and was popular among tea ceremony masters as a flower vase from early times. It is a long-bodied type with a double-layered mouth rim. It is made of rolled-up clay with a thick hinokigaki pattern carved into the shoulder and three marks on the front and back. The ware is very well fired, and the light brown surface is covered with a light green natural glaze.
