Most small vases of this type, which are commonly called “Uzukumaru”, have a double-lobed mouth and a rope pattern on the shoulder. This small jar has a beveled, sloping edge. The narrow, slightly outwardly small neck and the strong tension of the shoulder suggest that it belongs to the 15th century. The clay is rich in silica stone, characteristic of Shigaraki, and the shoulders are bright fire-colored, but there are many black spots on the lower half of the body. The thick yellowish green natural glaze running from the shoulder to the lower half of the body accentuates this jar.
