Gilt bronze and lacquer spittoon pots have been found in ancient China from Han tombs in Lenong County, while ceramic ones were found in the Yuezhou kilns at the end of the Tang Dynasty, which probably influenced our country. In the Shosoin Repository, there is a dark blue glass spittoon, dated 1021, which was applied in the first year of the Jian era (1021). This piece is near the end of the ash-glazed pottery period, with both the interior and exterior surfaces of the upper cup covered with ash glaze applied by brush from the rim to the midpoint of the cup.
