Inscribed “1480” (12th year of Bunmei)
Height 40.5 cm, mouth diameter 14.4 cm, body diameter 34.4 cm, bottom diameter 18.5 cm
The slightly open mouth neck may be due to cracking caused by the strong fire that spread outward. The neck of the mouth is generally upright, and the jade rim tends to degenerate and become slightly flattened. The shoulders are taut and the lower half of the body becomes narrower, which is also characteristic of this period. The surface of the vessel was adjusted by fast rotation of the potter’s wheel using me. The inscription on the lower half of the body is inscribed in four lines, “Kyoshun-no ya, Bizen 12 卯月廿四日” (Twelfth year of Bunmei 12 卯月廿四日). It is very well fired and has a brownish-brown color. The dark green natural glaze on the shoulders flows down to the lower half of the body, and the glaze pools at the apex and rises up in a ball-like shape. This is one of the finest examples from the middle Muromachi period.
